MARIA MERCEDES DE LA CLARA
Capuchino x Honchina de La Costa
LUCERO DE PRETENCIOSO
Pretencioso de La Virginia x Maria Mercedes de La Clara

This amazing mare out of the famous and now deceased CAPUCHINO has a 13' year Performance record matched by few. As an amateur owner, I've taken Mercedes into the professional Performance Division and actually beaten up to 6 trainers (all men by the way!). But it was not the rider…it was the HORSE!! Mercedes is one of the most naturally 4 beat gaited horse I have ever seen. She sizzles with controlled energy, she loves to show and she pounds the sounding board for the judges! She has the flexibility of a dancer as she demonstrates serpentines and figure eights with ease and perfection. And with all of her show ability she is also my favorite horse to take out on the trail because of her good mind and perfect ground manners.
Mercedes, along with my stallion, Pretencioso de La Virginia, produced an up-and-coming colt named Lucero, two years ago. (See below.) When Lucero was just two weeks old Mercedes went down and was rushed to the hospital at 10:30 on a Sunday night to the expert hands of a surgical team who saved her life with colic surgery. The colic was caused by an infection in the intestinal tract but luckily had not killed any of the tissue. After 4 long hours they carefully wound her intestines back into her belly and took her to recovery. They allowed me to watch the surgery (which they weren’t sure she would make it through) but told me it was dangerous to be in the recovery area since horses come out of anesthesia confused and thrashing around. I assured them if I was in there with her, her head in my lap, she would be quiet and still. They made me sign a release form and reluctantly allowed me to do just that.
As Mercedes came out of the anesthesia the doctors were watching with serious concern. I gently rubbed her neck and head and told her “stay down, stay down, you’re fine” and they watched in amazement as she did just that for over an hour. After that hour they said she was OK to try and stand and as I told her “OK, you can get up now,” she jumped up, pushed her way past everyone and headed straight into the stall where Lucero was calling to her. Even with stitches and bandages sewn to her belly, she immediately began nursing him.
She is the most AMAZING mare I have ever known. She is available for embryo transfer only. And if you choose to cross with one of my stallions I will also offer a special price for both.

This beautiful 2 year old colt is out of Maria Mercedes de La Clara (story above), and Pretencioso de La Virginia (story on breeding page). With both parents holding either National, International and World titles, Lucero comes from a long line of proven ancestry. His conformation is perfect, he has a broad chest, straight legs that track evenly, a beautiful head and eyes, and an attitude that he knows he’s tough stuff!
After having his legs x-rayed to assure fusion in the joints, Head Trainer Steven Lopez started him gently under saddle at 26 months. With only 4 weeks under saddle he is already demonstrating a Fino gait with 4 beat accuracy just like his parents.
He is going to be shown in his first show season of 2010 in both the professional and AO 3 year old divisions to see where his true calling lies.

INSOMNIA DE LA LIBERTAD
xxxxxxxxxxx
This is the amazing filly I bought at the 2009 Grand Nationals in Perry GA from La Libertad Paso Finos. She is out of the outstanding Fino Stallion, Imponente, who is a proven producer of many Champions. As I watched this 3 year old filly go around the arena I asked Howard "How much!?!?" I wanted him to give me a price BEFORE she was pinned because I knew it would go up as soon as the class was over! haha. Howard, being a good friend of mine for over 8 years negotiated a wonderful deal for me and I proudly brought her home with a third place National ribbon. (A judge, whose name I will not mention, was watching from the side and I asked him/her what they thought of the class and he/she said "I had the third place horse first." When I told him/her I just bought that horse they said I had made a very good purchase! I was so excited because they had made their comment BEFORE they knew I was looking at the horse!)
Since then I brought Insomnia home to AZ and showed her at the CA Gold Cup Show as a four year old. She won her class in both the Professional and AO divisions and went on to receive Reserve Champion in the Fino Fillies and Mares Championship and Champion in the AO Fino Fillies and Mares division. She is also a nice size for a young Fino filly and should produce both gait and size. I am anxious to see how she does in the 2010 show season. With Steven Lopez continuing her training she is sure to go on to even greater titles this show season!
